Ive been meaning to blog about this for a while. .mt9 files are the next generation of mp3, "Music 2.0" if you will, and are really sick. It includes six unmixed channels than can be faded in and out independently. Lets check out this very very asian graphic.
It features teens having a good time. What a surprise. but, on the left, you can get a look at the mt9 player, which has been released in korea, and see how each channel can be faded. This is perfect for making acapellas, instrumentals, or any sort of mix you want. Im that djs will be all over this as soon as newer stuff gets released/it gets out of korea.
Awesome feature number 2? No DRM, so you can burn it and share it freely. Music isnt a product anymore, its a service. Sound good? You bet. lets hope it can get off the ground.

Streetlab
So, as you might have guessed, I love remixes. Streetlab has been dropping some nasty stuff. His sight has tons of remixes. But, there are a few that stand out as outstanding. Firstly is his take on 'Gimme Shelter' by The Rolling Stones. Yea, he really took on one of the best rock songs of all time. And he made it work. To take one from Micky D's, Im Lovin It!
The Rolling Stones - Gimme Shelter (Streetlab Mix)
Next up is his take on yet another rock classic. Led Zeppelin's 'Immigrant Song'. Yea, really. I was surprised too. But, its a great track. Check it out.

A Tribute to Nicholas Garza
Michael here. Today, rescuers found the body of Nick Garza, my good friend who had mysteriously disappeared on February 5th. I still don't know what to feel. The least I can do is post this tribute to Nick - and, of course, his bonerific musical taste.
Well, I hope that did some Justice (har-har) to Nick's impeccable music taste. I miss you, bro.
Firstly, a great remix by me.no.wah of Justice's masterpiece:
Justice - Genesis (me.no.wah Remix)
Next up, we have some Young Jeezy reworked by Ratatat:
Young Jeezy & Bun B - Over Here (Ratatat Remix)
Finally, indulge in Oriental auralgasm with The Books:
The Books - It Never Changes to Stop

Deadmau5
So its been a rough couple days adjusting to DC suburbia. Buuuut, i stumbled upon Deadmau5 (read: dead mouse). Hes a dj from Niagra Falls (the canada side), and has been dropping some sweet remixes and tracks of his own. Personally, I favor his remixes. Two of them in particular.
The first remixes one of Daft Punk's best tracks, 'Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger'.
In case you guys dont recognize the graphic, its from Interstella 5555, one of the best movies ever. Check it out.
Daft Punk - Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger (Deadmau5 Edit)
The second is a rework of Micky Slim's rework of House of Pain's 'Jump Around'. Its a classic.

Too much 8bit? Naaa
Ok, so the end of my 8bit showcase is nigh. Two artists I want to hit up can both be found on 8bitpeoples, which is a website for chiptuning. Of the stuff ive heard, Bit Shifter and Trash80 both really do it for me. Particularly Trash80's 'Icarus'. Love it
Trash80 - Icarus
Its a bit more mainstreamed than Xinon, who has a lot more glitchyness goin on. The second artist is Bit Shifter. He makes a more driving and upbeat tune.
Bit Shifter - Hexadecimal Genome
Bit Shifter - Reformat the Planet
Bit Shifter at work (play?)
Alright, well enough of the 8bit stuff for now. Ill find something else interesting in the next couple days.

A little bit more 8-bit
After tracking down some more 8-bit stuff yesterday, I stumbled upon a few articles attacking one of my favorite bands, Crystal Castles. Apparently CC has ripped off a bunch of 8bit stuff, such as lo-bat's "My little droid needs a Hand." It goes beyond just sampling, which the 8bit community is cool with, and steals a bunch of chunks, including rhythms and structures. Not cool. If you want to check it out yourself, heres the links to the two tracks.
Crystal Castles - Insecticon
Lo-Bat - My Little Droid Needs a Hand
When I listened, they clearly sound wayyyy too similar for it to be ok. As if my dreams werent shattered enough, there seems to be a huge controversy between CC and artist Trevor Brown over CC's alleged stealing of art for use on their tshirts and albums. Once again, not cool.
Heres the picture in question.
Its a picture of Madonna with a black eye. Wonderful. However, CC refuses to give credit where credit is due, and have just generally been dicks about the whole situation. Not fun.
But ok, enough of the anti-CC rant. I still love their music. Kind of like how you can hate McDonalds for making your friends fat, but still love the cheap, delicious food. Mmhm.
Heres a couple consolation tracks
Crystal Castles - Untrust Us
Crystal Castles - Courtship Dating (zShare)
Well, this post didnt end up with as much 8bit music as I was planning. Ill try to throw some up tomorrow, if i get the time. Then i promise ill hop off 8bit's jock for a little bit.

A little bit of 8-bit
Recently, I've heard a lot about 8-bit music. You know, the stuff they play on gameboys. After a little research, I found this cool program called 'Little Sound Dj' which lets you use a gameboy as an instrument. Pretty nifty.
Anyways, on to the music. Xinon is from Gunma, Japan, and has a nasty sound. And I quote,
"I'm Xinon that is a Japanese chiptuner.
I creating music by gameboy.
love nanoloop&little sound dj."
Right on. I really dig some of his stuff, but hypemachine only got me three tracks dropped on 'The Fast Life', so I checked out his myspace. Lo and behold, it had free tracks! And not just a couple, but 10 of em. Pretty ballin.
His music is moving fast enough to be called dancehall in some of the tracks, like 'Attitude'.
Xinon - Attitude
But in others, its a bit more soothing, well as soothing as crunchy 8-bit beeps can be, like in 'Moonlight Symphony'.
Xinon - Moonlight Symphony
Oh, and heres a video of him Djing. Sick, eh? Looks like hes pretty into it.
Well, thats all for now, hope you enjoy the tracks, and if ya do, take a look at his myspace and grab some of the free tracks.
Word.

A New Horizon
Look, heres the deal. Music has become a huge part of my life. Its pretty much the best thing ever. So, I started following the blog scene. Hypemachine and all that good shit. But sometimes I'd find some sick track that no one had dropped yet, or some dreadfully underrepresented artist that really should be more visible.
I'm starting this blog to drop tracks and rep artists, some of which will surely be seen around the blogsphere, but some of which just might be a little harder to find.
Ok, so lets try to throw something down that hasn't gotten enough attention. Hypemachine gives me tons of AC/DC hits when i search AC, when in fact what I'm looking for is a cat out of Staten Island, whos flow is great, and has dropped a few sick mixtapes. My personal favorite song of his is a remix of Yael Naim's 'New Soul'. It can be found on his myspace or you can download the 320 kbps version that dropped on Nah Right.

Enjoy
